Nutcracker at the Ayala Malls

Huge chunk of my childhood years was ballet.  Aside from the hanky-panky, I was taught and trained to do splits, pirouettes, plies, arabesques for five years with twice a week sessions,  plus!!! 1-2 times a year recitals and an annual muscle-wracking practical exam orchestrated by Russian ballerinas.  But then, I quit.  Ballet somehow got in the way with other extra-curricular activities like swimming and bayanihan.
After having watched snippets of Nutcracker at the Ayala Malls, I wish at this moment that I can still dance ballet. The toes can still manage a point, but the rest of the "stretchy" and "balance-stricken" moves is beyond imagination. I remember watching the full-length of Nutcracker at the Cultural Center of the Philippines with Mom and Dad decades ago. Back then, I faced boredom. Today, I am inspired by ballet and the COLORS that came with it.
The show began with a fusion of interpretative dance moves. In my own terms and observation, ballet combined with hip-hop(?) and jazz(?)
The use of popular Filipino Christmas songs during the first part of the show had made me finally feel the spirit of Christmas.  At this point, to get going with my shopping was what I thought of while watching the show.  21 days to go!
 The start of Nutcracker.
My favorite colors, turquoise and gold.
These colors too, red and black.
Come to think of it, I never reached the stage of dancing with "toe shoes".
Yikes!  I don't think I'll manage any longer. Not even a jump.
Looks familiar. I posed this way before.  HeeHee.
A cute yellow-green segment.

With or without past ties, only Ayala Malls can mount and bring such world class events ... and for free!

A BIG kudos to my ex-"Mothers", "Sisters" and "Belyas".  Not only did I think of ballet today.  My not-so past life bugged me as well.  Missing all of you!

put the LIME in the coconut

Midnight comes in less than an hour. Yahoo!!! After watching the finale of agua bendita, Practical Magic comes on. Sharing with you my fave scene (Hmm. Reminds me of the "Wednesday Club" days that culminated with a sabotaged pad and wrecked "heads".  Lol!)  .......

Oops! Watch the scene over youtube instead. Seems like there's a lack of technical cooperation here. Just click on the notification that pops on the screen.  But here's the full song for your listening pleasure ....

Enjoy the weekend!!!  Cheers!!!  By the way, it was just announced over the news that September 10 is a holiday :)  Yay!

GOLDen age

Let me put it this way, color rules my life these days.  Though  white remains to be a top preference,  Saturday night was a breather and was spent and celebrated with GOLD.

Before I move on to the details of the gold celebration, here's a bit of reflection.  Obviously, I'm in a reflecting mood once again :)

I regard this color-fetish as an alarming sign of aging. Lol! But since there is only this reason I had foolishly come up with, there might after all be a looming truth to it. Double LOL! On a serious note, life really did make a turn in my 30s. Gone(?) are the carefree 20-ish days, weaving my way through high energy social scenes in all possible corners of the planet. Moving on to present times -- I am left shocked, in awe, and filled with wonder on how I could have survived such "fast-paced" day and night life back then. Again, aging!

Here's the thing -- when you're in your 30s, the night finally creeps up on you. It lives to its meaning. I sleep! But on top of the sleeping, I have become more analytical (lol). More reflective (lol lol). Most especially when the dreaded birthday is just a couple of months away. Oh Boy! Here we go again. FEAR FACTOR!!! Nevertheless, I spend some days thinking (too much) and preparing (too much) for that day the Golden age lands on my lap.

This then leads me to last Saturday's gold celebration. Good thing, I did attend. Otherwise, I would have missed out on all the blast especially the  juicy chikas ... and most importantly the coming to terms with aging.

My very first boss, who made work real fun from that moment I stepped foot in the corporate world, celebrated her 50th birthday. I was fresh from college, dreaming on building an empire.  Instead, I found myself immersed and indulged with a lot of "showbiz" and "chika" talk.  If I do my math, she was in her 30s when I first met her.  Imagine that!

The theme of the night. We are a brady bunch of marketing practitioners.  Thus, get-togethers, whether it be work or personal related, must always be themed.

In relation to the gold theme, I love the gold bangles!!!

Lovely floral arrangement to spruce up the night and the venue.

The venue which I have personally earmarked as "Anthony's Spa".  Aside from the fact that the house is owned by my former co-worker, Anthony, his home emits a sense of relaxation and serenity.  Exactly like being in a spa.

Nothing beats a homemade Paella! ... with wine ... and champagne.  Oh, have I mentioned that we used to be a bunch of alcoholics too.  Lol!  But these days, we have downgraded our preference to coffee or tea.  Oooh, aging!

Getting ready for the toast.  There's me, in my drop bead necklace, waiting for that perfect moment shot.

The traditional "alay" or gift-giving.  Simple mechanics:  Gift givers  say their wishes and share a bit of story about their gift.  Reminder, keep in mind the theme.  See!  The gift came in gold :)

The best gift of all.  Funny.

A short video clip on the Golden Girls interspersed with throughout the years images of the birthday celebrant (with us, of course).

A no-choice speech by the celebrant who we call "Mother". We, the children or better known as Bella (Flores), opted to be seated on the floor while Mother gave her spiel.

As I earlier said, I have come to terms with aging on that very night.  I was meant to be there in order for me to hear straight from Mother how beautiful and wonderful it is to age.  There is nothing to fear.   As they say, there are no U-turns.  Not even surgeries can do the trick of masking one's age. It is part and parcel of growing and living.

As I continue on,  I cross my fingers that  I always be able to keep in mind what Mother said .....  there is no better place than being right here this very moment. But I also look forward to what the  next stop, the 60s, will bring :)

Cheers to Mother! Cheers to great friends!

The perfect moment shot I waited for.  CHEERS TO AGE!!!

random WHITE weekend

On days filled with swirls and twirls, I choose WHITE for its pureness and gentleness.

Relaxing long weekend with J. Bond.

Flora beaded necklace (2009) which I thought of wearing over the weekend.

My Aunt and her assistants arranging white flowers for Uncle Bob on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Seemingly imagining that the flowers were for a wedding :)

How I want food served these days. In white.

An image I came across at Maryridge, Tagaytay.

How about you?  What is your color these days?

February 18, 2010 WHEN I PEEP OUT A WINDOW

I have this habit of peeping out  a window to check what's happening outdoors.  Early mornings and late afternoons are the best

In the morning, I see folks, mostly in their senior years, from my living room window walking back and forth in their exercise outfits.  Some even do their stretching on a coconut tree in front of my house.  They finish their routine by 8:00 am.

In the afternoon, I gaze at the sway of the trees from my bedroom window as the sun is about to rest.  Absolutely one of the most serene sights I have ever seen.

A peep from my bedroom window.  By the way, I use my shawls to tie my curtains during the day.

And at night, I look out the window and pray that my husband arrives home safe from his long day at work.

Have you ever thought of a window as a beautiful artwork

I DO.

A photo I took from a local trip with my former work colleagues in 2009.  This trip is known as Viaje Del Sol:  The Way of the Sun.  To know more about it, visit www.viajedelsol.org.

But unlike the artworks we know, this 4-sided frame makes you see, feel and breath what is real.  Nothing is still and sights change. I see life when I look out a window.  I SEE ... Children laughing and playing ... Lovers strolling ... Ice-cream man ringing his bell ... Cars passing by ... Neighbors with their pet dogs ... A group of teenage boys about to play basketball ... Three Indian ladies,  in their colorful outfits, leisurely walking and talking at the same time ... folks from a nearby shanty village busy working on their livelihood program (they sew colorful rags and repair jeans) ...  Fresh laundry being naturally dried from the warmth of the sun ... the sun rising  ... and the moon peeping.

I have been taking photos of my bead works beside a window.  I love the natural light that comes through it. My photo becomes alive and colors are more vivid. This is the very 1st photo I took from my bedroom window.

2008 bangle collection.  The colors of the bangles are so vivid.  The bangles were literally tied on the window frame. But  this is a not-so-good photo.  See the window handle on the right?  Lol.

This  next photo of a window I took after a massage became an inspiration for my Flora 2009 Collection.

The inspiration

The result =)

How about you?  I hope you see life in your window too.

February 10, 2009 I am the lord of my Rings

Have you ever read this epic tale?  Or have you ever had the chance to watch its movie version?

I DID.

Lord of the Rings, in my own terms, is an epic tale which revolves around a ring.  With its beauty,  also came a mystical evil power.  Characters became obsessed and were  ruled by the ring.

Well . . . I think this is how I become with my rings :)

I have been out on a quest for rings for 3 years now.  I have been collecting bunches of rings but rarely wear them.  The truth is, it is the color of these rings that made me start my collection.  Colors inspire me.

There are still a lot of rings hidden somewhere in my storage boxes.  I definitely have to schedule a "quest" day to gather all these.

But unlike the characters in  Lord of the Rings, I am not ruled by my rings

I end up selling them :)
